Summer Reading List 2019

Summer Reading List 2019

We’ve said it many times before, perhaps an obnoxious amount, that we love to read. Fiction tends to be our jam, with a variety of sub-genres hitting the spot (contemporary, chick lit, historical, etc.) . If you ever want a good thriller/ mystery recommendation, Ashley is your girl. Jesse just likes anything that will tug at your heartstrings. And there ain’t no shame in our game- yes, we still like young adult fiction (Ex. To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before series, yes please). Our book club has gotten us to branch out from our norm, and because of that, we would like to think we expanded our horizons about potential books we might be interested in. You can check out everything we’ve read recently on our Goodreads list (feel free to follow us if you want to keep up with what we are getting ourselves into). We’ve got a long list of “to be read” books and it grows constantly. But we’ve attempted to be realistic and pick out a few that we are going to make a point to get to this summer. If you remember, we made a New Year’s resolution to read at least 24 books each this year. So we’ve got a timeline to keep, people. There’s no rhyme or reason to our list- just what sounds appealing right now.

  • Hope and Other Punch Lines by Julie Buxbaum

    • They say don’t judge a book by it’s cover, but we’re kind of obsessed with this cover. Did we choose it for that reason? Perhaps, but we can’t wait to check it out!

  • Five Feet Apart by Rachael Lippincott

    • We both can’t wait to get to this one. We love to read books BEFORE we see their movie and let’s be honest- no movie is ever as good as the book.

  • China Rich Girlfriend by Kevin Kwan

    • Part two of Crazy Rich Asians, which was another book club read. We loved the first so we’re looking forward to more great work by Kevin Kwan!

  • Girl, Stop Apologizing by Rachel Hollis

    • We read Girl, Wash Your Face in book club and it was a smash hit. We all could use a self-help book thrown in there from time to time. Knowing ourselves, we assume Rachel Hollis’ second book is going to speak straight to our hearts. It’s probably going to help further light a fire under our asses to get sh*t done and feel good about setting goals and making them happen all while not apologizing about it.

  • The Forgotten Girls by Sara Blaedel

    • Jesse is a scaredy cat, so this will be an Ashley-only book.

  • True Colors by Kristin Hannah

    • This one is all about three sisters, rivalry, betrayal, and how families get through it all. Sounds JUICY!

  • We Own The Sky by Luke Allnutt

    • This is a story about a father and a son. If the book tugs on our heartstrings as much as the cover of this book, we’re already crying.

  • The Couple Next Door by Shari Lapena

    • Another one just for Ashley. If you read the synopsis it sounds like an episode of Crime Junkies. YESS! Who needs to be able to sleep at night any way?

  • Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng

    • Rumor has it THIS book is soon going to be a Hulu series featuring Reese Witherspoon and Kerry Washington. Say no more.

Pick one. Pick them all. Read them with us (we’ve linked them below so you can buy them!). Join our book club. Start your own book club AND invite us. Fall in love with fictional characters. Get a book hangover. Leaders are readers, people. A recent study found adults who read for 30 minutes a week reported feeling 20% more satisfied with their lives. All of the books on our list are great books to read by the pool. If you can read AND get a healthy glow by the pool, imagine your satisfaction level.

What are some books on your summer reading list?
