10 Travel Hacks You Need For Your Next Vacay
We love adventures, big and small. As a wolfpack we’ve ventured to Greece, Dominican Republic, Boca, Asheville, Spain, & MORE!
We like to think we’ve learned a handful of things along the way, but we are by no means “travel professionals”. However, here you have our top ten travel hacks to save you money, time, & eliminate stress.
Always get travel insurance! TRUST US. We booked a summer trip to the Dominican and THANK GOODNESS we purchased full travel insurance to cancel our trip after all of scary things happening there. If you’re willing to spend a few thousand dollars on a trip, don’t skimp on paying a little over $100 per person to cover your trip just in case anything happens. Life is unpredictable, people. We received a FULL refund and are now on our way to Barcelona. We call that a win.
Bring an empty water bottle to the airport (or chug it before the security line). Most airports have awesome refillable stations now- PLUS it is great for once you get to your destination to refill and have with you at all times. Hydrate, don’t die-drate.
Add some dryer sheets to your suitcase. If you’re anything like us, you probably sweat. Beat the heat and the stank by keeping dryer sheets in your suitcase. It’ll smell like you just pulled your stuff out of the dryer. #fakeittilyoumakeit
Roll your clothes OR invest in some cute cubes to put your items in without the mess! We’re over-packers by nature. Everyone has suggested we invest in cubes and man, they weren’t kidding- these suckers really make all the difference!
Make sure you pack an empty sack. We aren’t fancy- a plastic Walmart sack will do just fine. This is to keep your dirty clothes in throughout your trip. You don’t want those stinky things mixing with all the good stuff you’ve got left.
Wrap cellophane around the caps of your bottles. This sounds silly until you arrive at your destination and your bottle of face wash has either exploded or just slowly oozed all over the inside of your toiletry bag. You could also use duct tape here. Get creative, yall.
Wear your bulkiest items on the plane. Who cares if you look like the Michelin man during a flight? Did your long sleeve shirt, sweater, scarf, joggers, hat, and tennis shoes all make it to your destination AND everything else fit in the carry on? Great success.
Research the shit out of your flights. Prices on flights seem to change daily, so unless you have copious amounts of money and can fly spontaneously, keep an eye out. Flights tend to be cheaper on Tuesdays. We’ve been told the reasoning behind this before, but we can’t remember it right now. It’s true though, so plan, people, plan.
Bring a roll of duct tape. The best multipurpose tool. Need a lint roller? Duct tape. Need to secure those bottle caps again? Duct tape. Need a temporary hem? Duct tape. Broke a lamp in the hotel? Duct tape (and money later). The list goes on and on.
Look into an international data plan for your phone BEFORE you head out of the country (if that’s your destination). We use our phones for everything these days and in a new city it tends to be your tour guide. You can typically add some sort of plan for $10 a day. Well worth it to know that you won’t have to ride the red metro line all night again.
There you have it: 10 travel hacks to make your next adventure easier and more enjoyable. But WAIT- there’s more. Here are just a few small bonus hacks we didn’t want to leave out:
Let your credit card company or bank know where you’re headed. Having your card put on hold because they think it might be identity theft really sucks. No fun zone.
Invest in some no jet lag pills and vitamins so you don’t waste half your trip sleeping or feeling sickly. If you plan on having any booze during your trip we ALSO recommend Drinkwel. If we’ve said it before, we’ll say it 100 times. Bring on the vino, por favor.
Take a picture of your passport and email it to yourself. I mean getting stuck in another country doesn’t sound awful, but they won’t let you stay forever.
Make sure you get yourself a cute “personal item” to carry all your necessities on the plane. Our sweet friend (and entrepreneur) made these amazing personalized bags for us and our trip. You can get your own or some other cool swag at her Etsy shop.
Our biggest tip: don’t stress too hard about planning every detail of your trip. If you get lost, enjoy the journey there instead of freaking out. If you don’t pack enough clean underwear, go commando, you wild thing. Try not to let your vacation slip by in panic mode. Just have fun, play hard, stay alive.
